I Think My Roof Has Storm Damage. What Do I Do?

What To Do If You Think Your Roof Has Storm Damage

Hail, wind, rain, and snow: your roof is exposed to fluctuating, sometimes unforgiving, weather patterns all throughout the year. Colorado Springs homeowners often experience roof storm damage due to high winds and hail. If you think your roof has damage, here’s what you need to do next:

  1. From the ground, perform a quick visual inspection of your roof. Look over the roof for signs of damage. Cracked tiles, missing shingles, or granule loss, if you have an asphalt shingle roof, are common signs of storm damage. Additionally, check your roof flashing as it may be damaged, loose, or even missing. Moreover, be sure to inspect the interior of your home for water stains on the ceiling as storm damage can cause roof leaks. Make a note of the date, type, and time of the event and take photos if you plan to file an insurance claim.
  2. Request an estimate from a professional roofer. If you suspect or discover that your roof has storm damage, call your roofer before doing anything else. Your roofer will conduct a thorough assessment of the condition of your roof and mark any damage that is present. Should your roofer find sufficient damage for an insurance claim, contact your homeowners insurance company to proceed with the insurance claim process.
  3. Begin the restoration process. The process of restoring your home begins when you reach an agreement with your roofer and sign a contract. Work with your roofer to determine which roofing material is right for you and your home. It can be overwhelming when your home has storm damage. If you suspect that your home has weather damage, follow these steps to make the restoration process as smooth as possible. Questions?
