Fall Roof Maintenance Tips: How to Prepare Your Roof for Fall

5 Tips to Get Your Roof Ready for Fall

Fall is a great time to take care of your roof through regular maintenance and inspections. Getting your roof ready for fall can help you prepare your home for the oncoming cooler months and winter weather to follow. Consider these five tips to get your roof ready for fall and save money on repairs with preventative maintenance.

  1. Clean your gutters. If you can safely access your roof, it’s a good idea to clean your gutters. This is an important thing to do if you do not have gutter guards. Leaves, twigs, pine needles, and other materials can build up and prevent water from running off your home properly. A buildup of debris in the gutters can also weigh them down, causing them to sag over time.
  2. Clear debris and trim overhanging branches. Overhanging tree branches can cause damage by scraping against your roof. The leaves and twigs from these branches can also block your gutters. If you can do so safely, it’s important to trim overhanging tree branches away from your roof. It’s also a good idea to clear any debris from your roof to allow water to run off of the roof freely.
  3. Check for damage and signs of roof leaks. Even by looking at your roof from the ground, you can inspect your roof for signs of damage. Look for signs like granule loss, missing shingles, or broken tiles and have them repaired as soon as possible. You can also look for signs of roof leaks by looking at the interior of your home. Contact your roofer if you notice any stains or blistering on your ceiling.
  4. Get a snow retention system if you have a metal roof. As we head into fall, it’s a good idea to plan for winter too. If you have a metal roof, consider installing snow guards. These keep snow buildup from sliding off and damaging gutters or falling on top of someone. At Rampart Roofing, Inc., we install snow guards and highly recommend them for metal roofs.
  5. Get a roof inspection. Routine roof inspections are an essential part of home maintenance and can help you save money on costly repairs. Give us a call at (719) 487-7663 to schedule your roof inspection today.
