2. Can you roof over existing shingles? Roofing over existing shingles is against code in both El Paso and Teller counties. Additionally, a roof with multiple layers may not be as effective since shingles need to be laid as flatly as possible to function properly. Complete roof tear-offs are beneficial because they allow your roofer to inspect the condition of your roof decking and underlayment, and make replacements, as necessary.
3. When do I need a roof replacement? There are several things to look for when determining if you need a new roof. Consider the roofing material. If your roof is older, it may be nearing its replacement age. Moreover, if your roof has cracked or curling shingles, granule loss, and other irreparable damage, it is most likely time to consider a roof replacement. You may also need a roof replacement if your home easily develops ice dams, has roofing leaks, and has damaged flashings.
